Iran's Pezeshkian Says Tehran Fully Ready for 'Fair' US Deal

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared Sunday that Tehran stands fully prepared to reach a "balanced and fair" agreement with Washington — one capable of securing lasting peace across the West Asia region — in a high-level call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders discussed the latest regional developments and reviewed the outcome of weekend negotiations between Iranian and US delegations in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, according to a statement published on the presidential office's website.

Pezeshkian drew clear boundaries for any prospective deal, stating that Iran's red lines are its national interests and the rights of its people. He added that should Washington honor its obligations under international legal frameworks, a workable agreement remains attainable. The Iranian president also signaled Tehran's readiness to coordinate with regional neighbors to establish peace and security — explicitly excluding the presence or interference of transregional powers.

Putin, in turn, voiced Moscow's firm backing for a diplomatic and political resolution to the crisis, pledging to deploy Russia's capacities in support of mediation efforts and committing to sustained consultations toward that end. The Russian president also validated Iran's "rightful" demands, including compensation for war damages sustained during hostilities with the United States and Israel, as well as binding long-term security guarantees against any repetition of what he termed "aggression."

The exchange came against the backdrop of a conflict that erupted on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, alongside senior military commanders and civilians. Iran retaliated with successive waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US military assets and bases across the Middle East.

A two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States entered into force Wednesday, setting the stage for the Islamabad negotiations — which, despite running for extended hours, ended without a breakthrough agreement.
