Israel Moves to Lift Wartime Restrictions

(MENAFN) Israel moved Wednesday to roll back sweeping wartime restrictions imposed since the launch of its military campaign against Iran, signaling a cautious but significant shift in the country's security posture as hostilities enter a new phase.

The Home Front Command announced it would downgrade nationwide curbs from an "essential activity level" to a "limited activity level" across all regions of the country effective Thursday, stating the decision was made "in accordance with a situational assessment."

The easing of measures brings immediate, tangible changes for civilians. Public gatherings will now be permitted for up to 50 people — up from the previous cap of 20 — so long as events are held in proximity to a shelter. Educational institutions, however, will remain closed for the time being.

In a further loosening of wartime protocols, the sweeping ban on workplace operations has been lifted. Businesses may now reopen provided employees can reach a shelter within approximately one minute. Prior to Wednesday's announcement, only facilities deemed "vital" were permitted to operate.

Perhaps the most consequential development is the imminent reopening of the country's skies. Ben Gurion International Airport is scheduled to gradually restore operations before dawn Thursday — its first resumption of activity since the conflict erupted — as Israeli airspace prepares to reopen.

The de-escalation follows a dramatic weekend in which Israel and the United States jointly launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran on Saturday morning. Iran responded with retaliatory strikes targeting both Israeli territory and U.S. military installations across the Middle East.
