Putin Hails New Russian Weapons as Guarantee of “Strategic Parity”
(MENAFN) Russia’s latest enhancements to its nuclear arsenal, including the Burevestnik cruise missile and the Poseidon underwater drone, are designed to secure the nation’s “strategic parity” throughout the 21st century, President Vladimir Putin asserted.
The Russian president made these comments on Tuesday during a ceremony honoring individuals involved in developing the new state-of-the-art weaponry.
According to him, the recent successful trials of these systems are the culmination of “long-announced work” and should not be regarded as unexpected.
“Our country is not threatening anyone. Russia, like all other nuclear powers, is developing its nuclear and strategic potential,” Putin emphasized.
He noted that the Burevestnik nuclear-powered missile has shown a range that is unmatched, while the Poseidon drone achieves speeds several times faster than any contemporary surface vessel.
Putin also revealed that the next generation of comparable armaments is already in development, mentioning that Russia is pursuing a supersonic missile propelled by a system based on Burevestnik’s power unit.
“The result you have achieved is, without exaggeration, of historic significance for our people. It ensures security and strategic parity for decades to come – one could safely say, for the entire 21st century,” the president told those receiving awards.
