Typhoon Kalmaegi Fatalities Hit Eighty-Five in Philippines

(MENAFN) The Philippines is grappling with mounting losses from Typhoon Kalmaegi, as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday that 85 people have died and 75 remain missing.

The NDRRMC confirmed that rescue teams are actively searching for those unaccounted for following widespread flooding and landslides.

Adding to the tragedy, six people died on Tuesday when a military helicopter crashed in Agusan del Sur province during a relief mission to assist typhoon victims.

Kalmaegi, the 20th typhoon to strike the Philippine archipelago this year, is expected to leave the country Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
