Marc Marquez Clinches Seventh MotoGP World Championship

(MENAFN) Marc Marquez, representing the Ducati Lenovo Team, secured his seventh MotoGP world championship title on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in his racing career.

The 17th race of the season, part of motorcycle racing’s top-tier competition, unfolded over 24 laps at the Motegi Circuit in Japan.

In a tightly contested race, Marquez finished in second place behind his teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who completed the race in 42 minutes and 09.312 seconds.

The Spanish rider crossed the finish line 4.196 seconds after Bagnaia, while Joan Mir of Honda HRC Castrol, also from Spain, took third place, trailing the leader by 6.858 seconds.

Although Marquez came in as the runner-up, this result was enough for him to secure his seventh career championship title, bringing him level with the Italian motorcycle icon Valentino Rossi, who also holds seven titles.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Marquez was moved to tears following his victory. He expressed his feelings by saying, "It's impossible even to speak. I just want to enjoy the moment, but it was indeed difficult; it was super difficult, but now I’m at peace with myself."

Reflecting on his journey, the 32-year-old rider admitted he had made a significant error by returning to racing too soon after surgery. "I made a big mistake in my career, to come back too early (from surgery), and then I fight, fight, fight—and I won again! So I’m at peace," he shared.

Looking ahead, the 18th race of the season, the Indonesia MotoGP Grand Prix, is set to take place on October 5.
