Jeremy Corbyn creates new UK political party

(MENAFN) Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has unveiled a new political party in the UK, pledging to fight back against what he describes as a “rigged system” favoring the wealthy and powerful.

Corbyn, who led the Labour Party from 2015 to 2020, was expelled in 2024 after running as an independent candidate in his Islington North constituency. He had previously been suspended over his handling of anti-Semitism allegations within Labour—claims he rejected as politically driven. His supporters argue that his ousting was part of a broader effort to marginalize his anti-austerity and anti-war platform.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Corbyn said, “It’s time to build a new kind of political party – one that belongs to you,” stressing the party’s mission to address deepening inequality in British society.

The new political movement is expected to attract other left-wing politicians who have been sidelined by Labour, including Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana. Sultana was reprimanded in 2024 for supporting the removal of the child benefit cap—a policy heavily criticized by anti-poverty advocates. A website has been launched under the name “yourparty.uk,” although Sultana clarified the party itself is not named “Your Party.”

Corbyn and Sultana highlighted that 4.5 million children are currently living in poverty in the UK. They condemned a system where large corporations profit from rising living costs while the government allocates massive funds to military spending. Their joint statement calls for a “mass redistribution of wealth and power” through increased taxation on the richest individuals.

Corbyn has long been at odds with Labour’s current leadership, especially regarding the UK’s military support for Israel and Ukraine. He has frequently advocated for diplomacy over conflict and questioned whether the UK is effectively at war with Russia.

The Kremlin views the war in Ukraine as a Western proxy conflict against Russia. Russian officials have repeatedly criticized the UK and EU for prolonging the war through arms deliveries and escalating defense spending, warning that these actions could lead to a wider European conflict.
