China’s ministry of National Defense says Japan threat is exaggerated
Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin issued the response on Wednesday following media inquiries about Japan’s recently published 2025 defense strategy document. The paper labels China as “the unprecedented biggest strategic threat to Japan” and accuses Beijing of attempting to alter the status quo through force, while also making pointed remarks about the Taiwan issue.
Jiang condemned Japan’s portrayal of China, arguing that Japan’s past militarism inflicted severe harm on China and other Asian nations. He stated that rather than acknowledging its historical actions, Japan is now intensifying its military posture.
He pointed to Japan’s rising defense budget, relaxed arms export rules, and growing participation in military alliances as signs of a concerning shift. Jiang also criticized ongoing debates within Japan over revising its long-standing “Three Non-Nuclear Principles,” warning that such moves contribute to regional instability and bloc-based confrontation.
