Xi highlights future for urban development during conference
Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the need to improve city governance, enhance public services, and ensure ecological and cultural preservation.
The president noted China’s transition from a predominantly rural nation to one where over 67% of residents now live in urban areas—a significant transformation since the reform and opening-up era of the late 1970s. He called for balanced development between large and small cities, improved infrastructure, and enhanced disaster preparedness.
Senior CPC leaders including Premier Li Qiang and top officials Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi also attended the conference.
Xi’s remarks highlight urbanization as a core component of China’s modernization strategy, aligning with broader goals of high-quality development, social equity, and environmental sustainability.
