UK Foreign Office Supports Incoming MI6 Chief
Media reports recently uncovered that Metreweli's grandfather had served under Nazi Germany during World War II.
According to the ministry, Metreweli’s contentious lineage has only fortified her dedication to shielding the nation from foreign dangers.
This assertion comes as public attention has turned to her ancestry, which includes a figure associated with wartime crimes.
On Thursday, a newspaper released a story disclosing that Metreweli—who is scheduled to take over as MI6 director this October—is the granddaughter of Constantine Dobrowolski.
Dobrowolski was a former Red Army soldier who defected and enlisted with Hitler’s military, earning the moniker “the Butcher” due to alleged brutalities in Nazi-occupied Ukraine.
In response, a spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued a statement on Friday, explaining: “Blaise Metreweli neither knew nor met her paternal grandfather.
Blaise’s ancestry is characterized by conflict and division and, as is the case for many with Eastern European heritage, is only partially understood.”
The statement further emphasized: “It is precisely this complex heritage that has contributed to her commitment to preventing conflict and protecting the British public from modern threats posed by today’s hostile states, as the next chief of MI6.”
